In this case study, we spoke with Zizi Zuo, founder of Future Fusion Online, an Australian-based online fashion brand that brings unique designs from independent Chinese labels to the world. Zizi shares how she used Gojiberry's Shopify survey tool to navigate her solo entrepreneurial journey and elevate her brand.
I launched Future Fusion Online in 2020, right as the pandemic started. At that time, I felt the need to do something I had always been passionate about—fashion. My vision was to bridge independent, creative Chinese fashion labels with Australia and the global market. I wanted to share the rich culture of Chinese fashion, and this bold idea took root in my bedroom, with stock filling up my apartment!
I started with just three brands, experimenting with styles to see what would resonate most with my customers. I quickly learned that colorful, vibrant designs sell best—people feel happy and excited when they wear them, which motivates me to keep going. My goal now is to expand, scale up, and eventually create my own brand, designing and manufacturing in collaboration with overseas factories.
Funding and time management are by far my biggest challenges. Since I handle everything—from product sourcing to shipping and marketing—there’s never enough time. Ads on Instagram and Pinterest work well for us, but they’re expensive. And running the business alone means I'm constantly managing costs, thinking about profit margins, and juggling these with my fashion design studies.
Being a solopreneur is a 24/7 job. When you’re working solo, every spare moment is spent thinking about the next step—whether that’s sourcing new products, improving marketing, or figuring out how to stay up to date with the latest trends, like AI tools that could make running the shop more efficient.
I first noticed Gojiberry’s surveys when shopping at another store. After I placed an order, a survey popped up asking how I’d discovered the brand. I thought it was such a simple yet powerful way to collect feedback directly from customers, and I knew I needed something similar for my business.
After comparing a few apps on Shopify, I chose Gojiberry because it matched my needs perfectly. It’s affordable, easy to set up, and has a cute design that fits my brand. I loved how quickly I could get it running on my store, and soon enough, I started collecting valuable customer data immediately after purchases.
We implemented post-purchase surveys that ask questions like “Where did you hear about us?” and “How was your shopping experience?” The results have been eye-opening. Most of our customers found us through Instagram and Pinterest, confirming that our ads are working. But what surprised me was that word of mouth came in third! It’s such a great feeling to know customers are recommending our brand to friends and family. This data has validated our marketing strategy and helped us decide where to focus future ad spending.
The feedback has also helped us better understand customer preferences. Knowing what styles and products are popular means I can adjust our offerings accordingly, making sure we’re always aligned with what our customers love.
Gojiberry has become more than just a feedback tool; it’s a way for us to build a real connection with our customers. The surveys are easy for them to complete, which gives us high response rates and accurate data. I especially appreciate how the tool integrates seamlessly with Shopify—it saves me so much time, which, as a solopreneur, is incredibly valuable. Plus, it helps me improve customer engagement and tailor our marketing strategy to better fit their needs.
"Never stop learning," especially when you're running a business by yourself. You have to be ready to learn everything—design, coding, marketing—there’s no end to it! I had no background in tech, but I taught myself how to design my website and run ads. There are tons of tutorials online; you just have to push through and finish them.
Also, don’t be afraid to experiment. Whether it’s trying out new advertising platforms like Google Ads or TikTok, or learning how to use new tools, constantly evolving is key. And my biggest piece of advice? Just start. There’s so much you’ll learn along the way, but nothing beats diving in and figuring it out as you go.
Zizi’s journey from a bedroom-based solopreneur to a growing brand is a testament to the power of determination, creativity, and the right tools—like Gojiberry’s survey app—to gather insights and drive business growth.
